Marie-Claude is in mid-way through a Master's of Art program in Educational Technology at Concordia. She is concentrating on aspects of usability and mobile technology.
Her undergraduate degree was completed at the Simon Fraser University School of Interactive Arts. She received a B.Sc. Interactive Arts with a concentration in Interactive Design with a Co-Operative Education. She studied aspects of design, business, and technology.
Marie-Claude's most recent employement is that of research assistant as a research assistant for Concordia University, where she has managed research projects and produces IMS-LD models, and for the Université du Québec, where she has redesigned interfaces and produced research materials.
She has also worked as a course integrator. She used the EEDO ForceTen authoring tool to interpret instructional design and input the content into a learning content management system for clients.
She has had the experience of being a research assistant for Simon Fraser University School of Interactive Arts where she has learned to design application interfaces (such as SPLASH), captured video sound, and digital output for usability testing, and translated material between English and French.
She has also had experience designing websites, layouts, and logos for multiple clients.
She attended Camp CLOE. The intensive training event held from May 4-9 2003, at the University of Waterloo, featured learning communities, instructional design, accessibility, project management, evaluation and technology issues. Attendees acquired knowledge on how to build highly interactive, learner-centred, learning objects. There were a total of sixteen universities and one college represented at the event and she was the only representative from out of the province.
She was the Interactive Arts Representative of the Simon Fraser University Surrey Student Society. She was also a member of the Learning Management System Selection Commitee, as well as the Process Advisory Sub-commitee, as the undergraduate student representative. The committee, chaired by Bill Krane (Associate Vice-President, Academic), aims at establishing a process for selecting a Learning Management System to support technology-enhanced teaching and learning at SFU.
The British Columbia Minister of Advanced Education, Shirley Bond, invited a small team of students, including Marie-Claude Lavoie, to Victoria to give a presentation to ministry officials on a mock-up for a site that would act as a resource and communication venue for prospective and current B.C. post-secondary students and to discuss how their ideas could be incorporated into BCcampus. The team of four students was given an honorarium for their work on the project.
Marie-Claude was sponsored by Simon Fraser University School of Interative Arts to go to the international conference entitled 'e-ducation Without Borders 2003' held in the United Arab Emirates. The student-organized conference, held for the second time, was organized by students at Abu Dhabi's Higher Colleges of Technology to provide students with first-hand experience in organizing complex events while learning about the impact of e-learning on the global educational community.
She is able to use Macromedia Flash, Director and Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier and Acrobat, the full Office Suite including Access, Final Cut Pro, 3D Studio Max, ProTools, Form Z, MAX/MSP, MOT Plus, and ForceTen. She is comfortable in both Microsoft and Apple environments. She is capable in computer languages such as HTML, dHTML, JavaScript, Java, ASP, XML, XML-RPC, XSLT, CSS, and VBScript.
She is fluent in both French and English.
Marie-Claude received the Academic Award for Interactive Arts for her first year in the program and the Delta Cable Visual Art Award for Students Entering University.
